Feb 14 & 15 2009
What a wild day of racing at Dallas Slot Cars. Everyone had taken care of their Floral Valentine obligations and then came to race.
We had a surprise visit from 3 members of the Scale Auto racers from Houston. We hadn't seen them since the Tx Cup last March. It was great to see Ken, Frank and Ken again. They raced the first 2 racers but with a long drive back to Houston they left before the Nascar race. But they promised to be back hopefully for the swap meet weekend as well as the TX Cup weekend.
We had 9 racers in Flexi Can Am
11 racers in Retro Can Am
9 racers in Flexi Nascar with a
new total lap record being set. (Hint...the Dentist drilled 'em)
9 entries in Flexi Can Am. This was Wild Bill Frost's race. Not only did he TQ but finished on top of the podium. Glen Blanchard gave him a run for his money...until....heat #9....poof! A rarity with a Flacon 7 but it literally puffed out a cloud of smoke on the 3rd lap, Glen was done.
The guys from Houston, new to this class, were quickly finding their trigger finger and remembering the turns on the King. (The practice in this race would certain prove very helpful in the next race)
1st Wild Bill Frost 316 laps TQ 4.16 fast lap 4.23
2nd Steve Thornton 311 4.28
3rd Richard Hofer 307 4.44
4th Dean Wolfe 303 4.44
5th Ken Stevens 299 4.44
6th Glen Blanchard 289 4.10 (just before the poof)
7th David Flanagan 276 5.04
8th Frank Marchhart 260 5.04
9th Ken Brown 257 4.60 a hidden broken ?? caused a missed heat
Retro Can Am had 11 entries. Our friends from Houston proved their driving skills finishing 1st, 2nd and 5th in a impressive field of racers. Gary Risk arrived only moments before the race. He found it nearly impossible to prepare properly in 5 min. David Flanagan and Paul Watts both had mechanical issues affecting several of their heats.
Glen and Bill were both kind enough to help marshal this race. Thanks to both of them.
Ken Stevens showed us that he is a great driver. Not only did he TQ but he finished top of the podium. The racing was close during this race. It was really exciting.
See the photos of our upcoming racers. Jay Smoot's son and Gary Risk's son had a blast playing together and helping the big guys.

The first race on Sunday was the Flexi GTP. 7 entries and Oh it was tight between the top few places. David Watkins entered his first Flexi GTP race. (I'm sure he was testing and tuning for the Enduro) Ricky Hall, a ROMS racer, joined us for the first time. He had 2 great races learning the track and making adjustments for the King track. I hope he'll be back for more racing with us. Ricky and Gary were the only racers to qualify under 4 sec.
See the photos for the very close finish between 2nd place (Glen) and 3rd place (Steve) only separated by a few feet in the bank.
Gary Dean edged out Glen and Steve for the win.

It was a fantastic weekend at Dallas Slot Cars. We thank everyone that raced, marshaled and watched.
I also want to tell you that the D6 is fully functional now. The surface is cleaned and sprayed glued. The Houston guys ran their 32nd cars on Saturday and had a blast. Frank Reedy and Mike Barnett cleaned the track on Sunday and ran about 2 million laps with house cars. Frank and Mike declared the track ready to race! Thanks Frank and Mike for help polishing the D6 and getting it ready for some fast, fun racing.
Saturday Night our friend Dave Linn, as Chicago native and recent Texas transplant, visted Dallas Slot Cars. See the photo for his "Texan" transformation.
Also, see my reaction to Toothdoc's attempt at passing tech with a chassis laying on my tech block.
