It was a great day of racing at Dallas Slot Cars. A full day too with 3 races. We had some new visitors come by to say hello, look at parts and watch the action. Jay Smoot entered his first races today with super results. See the photos to see Dillon, his chief mechanic. Randy Holden and family came by to visit. Thanks Randy for helping to marshall.

All 3 races were a battle to the end.

First up was Flexi Indy with 5 Entries. Glen Blanchard and Wild Bill, stayed neck n neck the entire race. Glen (who loves this class) edged out Bill (who thinks he doesn't like this class but his continued success has him rethinking) by 1 lap. Jerry Hall and Jay Howard also battled through the race for 3rd and 4th. Steve Thornton, back from his exciting but exhausting weekend in Katy at the Tx Series, had a ghost in his motor.

1st Glen Blanchard 197 laps TQ 4.498 fast lap 4.499 (yes I rechecked those numbers)
2nd Wild Bill Frost 196 laps fast lap 4.550
3rd Jerry Hall 179 laps fast lap 4.88
4th Jay Howard 175 laps fast lap 4.44
5th Steve Thornton 121 laps fast lap 4.551

The next race was Flexi Nascar. Jay Smooth entered his first race today. He's been a slot racer for many years. It wont take him long to re-work his trigger finger as well as upgrade his chassis. His Nascar race went well but his Can Am race was fantastic. (more on that later) He also, had the best cheering squad in the building.
Glen won this race for a double victory! Followed by a superb 2nd place for Jerry Hall. Wild Bill broke in the 8th heat.

1st Glen Blanchard 314 laps TQ 4.16 fast lap 4.23
2nd Jerry Hall 304 laps fast lap 4.382
3rd Steve Thornton 299 laps fast lap 4.55
4th Jay Howard 295 laps fast lap 4.386
5th Wild Bill Frost 267 laps fast lap 4.387
6th Jay Smoot 253 laps fast lap 5.10

Last race of the day was Retro Can Am. 2 new racers today enjoying the brass. Pat Gleason, still learning the track, had a great race. Jay Smoot, using Mac's brand new chassis design, drove an amazing race finishing 2nd. Paul Watts had chassis problems that kept coming and going.
Steve Thornton had a great victory with TQ and fastest lap in the race.

1st Steve Thornton 193 laps TQ 4.40 fast lap 4.66
2nd Jay Smoot 186 laps fast lap 4.72
3rd Paul Watts 178 laps fast lap 4.82
4th Pat Gleason 173 laps fast lap 5.05

Thanks to everyone that came to race and visit. Its always fun to see new and old faces.

If you are considering racing the GTP Enduro please let me know. Especially if you need a partner email me or post it on the board.

Feb 14 & 15 2009
What a wild day of racing at Dallas Slot Cars. Everyone had taken care of their Floral Valentine obligations and then came to race.

We had a surprise visit from 3 members of the Scale Auto racers from Houston. We hadn't seen them since the Tx Cup last March. It was great to see Ken, Frank and Ken again. They raced the first 2 racers but with a long drive back to Houston they left before the Nascar race. But they promised to be back hopefully for the swap meet weekend as well as the TX Cup weekend.

We had 9 racers in Flexi Can Am

11 racers in Retro Can Am

9 racers in Flexi Nascar with a new total lap record being set. (Hint...the Dentist drilled 'em)

9 entries in Flexi Can Am. This was Wild Bill Frost's race. Not only did he TQ but finished on top of the podium. Glen Blanchard gave him a run for his money...until....heat #9....poof! A rarity with a Flacon 7 but it literally puffed out a cloud of smoke on the 3rd lap, Glen was done.

The guys from Houston, new to this class, were quickly finding their trigger finger and remembering the turns on the King. (The practice in this race would certain prove very helpful in the next race)

1st Wild Bill Frost 316 laps TQ 4.16 fast lap 4.23
2nd Steve Thornton 311 4.28
3rd Richard Hofer 307 4.44
4th Dean Wolfe 303 4.44
5th Ken Stevens 299 4.44
6th Glen Blanchard 289 4.10 (just before the poof)
7th David Flanagan 276 5.04
8th Frank Marchhart 260 5.04
9th Ken Brown 257 4.60 a hidden broken ?? caused a missed heat

Retro Can Am had 11 entries. Our friends from Houston proved their driving skills finishing 1st, 2nd and 5th in a impressive field of racers. Gary Risk arrived only moments before the race. He found it nearly impossible to prepare properly in 5 min. David Flanagan and Paul Watts both had mechanical issues affecting several of their heats.
Glen and Bill were both kind enough to help marshal this race. Thanks to both of them.
Ken Stevens showed us that he is a great driver. Not only did he TQ but he finished top of the podium. The racing was close during this race. It was really exciting.
See the photos of our upcoming racers. Jay Smoot's son and Gary Risk's son had a blast playing together and helping the big guys.

1st Ken Stevens 287 laps TQ 4.46 fast lap 4.60
2nd Ken brown 284 4.73
3rd Steve Thornton 278 4.67
4th Richard Hoffer 277 4.67
5th Frank Marchhart 275 4.88
6th Jay Howard 272 4.98
7th Jay Smoot 271 4.99
8th Paul Watts 250 4.88
9th David Flanagan 244 4.82
10th Eddy Mac 205 4.81
11th Gary Risk 82 4.78

Last race of the day was Flexi Nascar. 9 entries battling for the win. But this race was Glen Blanchard's. Having lost a sure victory in the first race of the day...he won this race by more than 8 laps. He set a new TOTAL LAP RECORD of 321 laps. (The old record was 319 held by Gary Risk)

1st Glen Blanchard 321 laps NEW TRACK RECORD TQ 4.12 fast lap 4.27
2nd Gary Risk 313 4.27
3rd Steve Thornton 310 4.39
4th Wild Bill Frost 296 4.49
5th Richard Hoffer 291 4.60
6th Justin Risk 284 4.55
7th David Flanagan 263 4.71
8th Jay Howard 121 4.71
9th Eddy Mac 55 5.04

The first race on Sunday was the Flexi GTP. 7 entries and Oh it was tight between the top few places. David Watkins entered his first Flexi GTP race. (I'm sure he was testing and tuning for the Enduro) Ricky Hall, a ROMS racer, joined us for the first time. He had 2 great races learning the track and making adjustments for the King track. I hope he'll be back for more racing with us. Ricky and Gary were the only racers to qualify under 4 sec.

See the photos for the very close finish between 2nd place (Glen) and 3rd place (Steve) only separated by a few feet in the bank.
Gary Dean edged out Glen and Steve for the win.

1st Gary Dean 325 TQ 3.86 fast lap 4.16
2nd Glen Blanchard 323 4.12
3rd Steve Thornton 323 4.17

5th Ricky Hall 264 4.21
6th Wild Bill Frost 258 4.17
7th David Watkins 229 4.33

The wing flexi race had 4 entries. It was close between all 4 of them till the 6th heat when Ricky had a small mechanical issue. He soon got back into the race but was playing catch up the next 2 heats. Glen Blanchard TQ'd as well as taking the checkered flag.

1st Glen Blanchard 381 laps TQ 3.35 fast lap 3.50
2nd Wild Bill Frost 369 3.67
3rd Steve Thornton 363 3.51
4th Ricky Hall 328 3.94

It was a fantastic weekend at Dallas Slot Cars. We thank everyone that raced, marshaled and watched.

I also want to tell you that the D6 is fully functional now. The surface is cleaned and sprayed glued. The Houston guys ran their 32nd cars on Saturday and had a blast. Frank Reedy and Mike Barnett cleaned the track on Sunday and ran about 2 million laps with house cars. Frank and Mike declared the track ready to race! Thanks Frank and Mike for help polishing the D6 and getting it ready for some fast, fun racing.

Saturday Night our friend Dave Linn, as Chicago native and recent Texas transplant, visted Dallas Slot Cars. See the photo for his "Texan" transformation.

Also, see my reaction to Toothdoc's attempt at passing tech with a chassis laying on my tech block.

The first race of the day was Flexi Indy. These cars are so much fun and they crash so good! We had 2 new racers in this race. Larry Welch, known as HO Larry, was practicing his trigger finger for the Enduro on Sunday. Randy Parker, a long time racer and track owner but new to Dallas Slot cars, came by to visit....but we insisted he race. He's hooked and will be back for more fun. We were also excited to have Shelby Thomas visit from Houston/Katy.

It was a fun race with a few spills and thrills. I think Shelby had been practicing his Flexi Indy skills. He had an impressive TQ and victory.

1st Shelby Thomas 198 laps TQ 4.41 fast lap 4.44
2nd Steve Thornton 190 laps fast lap 4.71
3rd Ben White 188 laps fast lap 4.65
4th Glen Blanchard 179 laps fast lap 4.71
5th Larry Welch 178 laps fast lap 4.71
6th David Flanagan 173 laps fast lap 4.71
7th Randy Parker 169 laps fast lap 4.88

5 racers in Flexi can Am. Mark Brown came in just as we were qualifying so we put a car and a controller in his hand to race. As noted before this is Glen Blanchard's favorite class...wonder why?? Although Ben edged him out for TQ, he handily won the race. Ben's TQ was just a fraction off the track record. Mark Brown, using a borrowed car, had difficulty the entire race.

1st Glen Blanchard 320 laps fast lap 4.17
2nd Ben White 310 laps TQ 4.09 fat lap 4.21
3rd Steve Thornton 303 laps fast lap 3.33
4th David Flanagan 288 laps fast lap 4.65
5th Mark Brown 224 laps fast lap 4.82

Last race of the day was Flexi Nascar. 9 racers joined this one. Oh boy this was an exciting, fun filled race that kept the marshalls busy. A couple of new racers, a couple of non COT bodies and a few bent chassis and we made it through this one. Glen Blanchard managed to stay the safest throughout this race winning by 9 laps making a double victory for the day. Everybody had issues with bent chassis. It was a lot of fun watching some of the experienced guys helping the new racers get things straightened and fixed.
Steve Thornton and Ben White battled the entire race for 2nd place. Shelby was in the hunt too until a small technical issue set him back a few laps.

1st Glen Blanchard 307 laps TQ 4.23 fast lap 4.23 (yes I rechecked those times)
2nd Steve Thornton 296 laps fast lap 4.33
3rd Ben White 295 laps fast lap 4.49
4th Shelby Thomas 282 laps 4.30
5th mark Brown 273 laps fast lap 4.54
6th Jay Howard 247 laps fast lap 4.82
7th David Flanagan 231 laps 4.83
8th Larry Welch 230 laps fast lap 4.99
9th Randy Parker 207 laps fats lap 5.10

It was a fun day of racing but the topic on everyones mind was the 2 hr Enduro on Sunday. Planning, strategies, tactics, preparations all being made in hopes of taking home the trophies.

All Hail King Ben White!!!

Ben placed well in every race giving him the crown and the trophy.

Most fun and laughs of the day.....The Indy race on the D6.

Biggest dissapointment of the day...Wild Bill suffered a major mechnical issue in the first heat of the first race.

Biggest suprise of the day.....Mac winning the Indy race on the D6. (Until yesterday, he had never driven a single lap on the track)

1st Funniest moment...Wild Bill using duct tape in a wild way. (See the photo)

2nd Funniest moment....Everyone hailing the new Flexi King

Flexi Day started with Nascar. 11 entries including a new racer, Jerel Hayes. He had a great race and learned the system with lane changing and sitouts. Dean Wolfe came in as a last minute entry. But it was the Glen, Steve and Ben show as they battled for the top spot. Ben had trouble with traffic in his last heat which set him back a few laps so it was up to Steve and Glen. Glen set high laps in the last heat of 42 to take the victory over Steve by 1 lap. But in a points race every position counted and Ben's third place would be valuable.

1st Glen Blanchard 308 laps TQ 4.19 fast lap 4.38
2nd Steve Thornton 307 4.39
3rd Ben White 299 4.38
4th Gary Dean 288 4.49
5th Wild Bill 284 4.44
6th Ryan Carpenter 284 4.55
7th Eddy Mac 273 4.60
8th Dean Wolfe 267 4.55
9th Jerry Hall 266 4.66
10th David Flanagan 238 5.00
11th Jerel Hayes 205 5.38

Next race of the day, was the new D6 with the Indy cars. Everyone including me, was a bit nervous. It felt a little weird getting started in there but soon we all found (or nearly found) our comfort zone. Things we discovered....The drivers panel is laid out different from the king. You don't skip over positions/colors, you just move to the next position but the color rotation is the same. Sitouts are after white. (We weren't sure and I couldn't find any setting to verify it) We were 100% sure after the first heat. I also discovered I didn't have a printer in there. Wow, you would think I would have thought about that before walking down the hall to start the first race. 1 more thing we discovered....you need a marshal in the bank, lead on and in the crook area.

Without a doubt this was the most fun and laughs of the day. 7 entries in this new uncharted territory of the D6. Ben White had TQ with a 4.14 (for an extra point). Several people had 25 laps in several heats. Most everyone had 1 "not so great" heat which kept the racing pretty even. But in the end, it was Mac that won the first race on the D6, with Ben coming in a close 2nd. These were 2 min heats, same as the King.
Sorry, no fast lap or lap averages this race, I didn't write it down.

1st Eddy Mac 144 laps NEW TRACK RECORD
2nd Ben White 141 laps TQ 4.14 NEW TRACK RECORD
3rd Glen Blanchard 140 laps
4th Gary Dean 139 laps
5th Steve Thornton 127 laps
6th David Flanagan 104 laps
7th Bill Frost 79 laps

Flexi Can Am was next and back to the King track. 10 entries in this fun class. They handle like a dream and everyone that enters this class once always raves about how great they handle. Glen Blanchard TQ'd for an extra point but had mechanical issues in one heat to set him back. Smooth and steady Ben White placed 2nd. But it was the Steve Thornton show this race. Steve, winning for the first time with a full track at Dallas Slot Cars, won by more than 5 laps.

1st Steve Thornton 305 laps fast lap 4.23
2nd Ben White 300 4.17
3rd Glen Blanchard 293 TQ 4.14 fast lap 4.17
4th Eddy Mac 289 4.32
5th Ryan Carpenter 282 4.33
6th Dean Wolfe 277 4.50
7th Gary Dean 275 4.45
8th David Flanagan 243 4.67
9th Jerel Hayes 215 4.66
10th Bill Frost 44 4.22

Last but not least was Flexi GTP. 7 entries. Everyone was a bit frazzled with 4 races in a day but anxious to see who would be KING! Grant Raymond, friend of Ryan Carpenter, joined the race. He had an amazing race considering he had never seen a slot car before Saturday. He never came out on red!

Before this last race the points were very close. Glen had 28. Ben had 27. Steve had 25. So it was anybody's game. Who would be King??

It was a tight race. Going into the 4th heat, he top 5 places were separated by 5 laps. Bill Frost had TQ 3.98, the only qualifier under 4.00. But this race was Ben White's. The win clinching is crown and cape victory.

The final point tally for the racers that participated in all 4 races:

Ben White 37
Glen Blanchard 35
Steve Thornton 33
Eddy Mac 27
Bill Frost 16

Final race results for Flexi GTP

1st Ben White 325 laps fast lap 4.16
2nd Ryan Carpenter 321 4.10
3rd Steve Thornton 318 4.17
4th Glen Blanchard 314 4.28
5th Eddy Mac 314 4.17
6th Grant Raymond 285 4.39
7th Bill Frost 282 TQ 3.98 4.11

It really was a fabulous day of Flexi Racing. Thanks to everyone that came and raced. Everyone had fun even if they were there for just one race. Thanks for coming to play with us.
