13 teams WOW! Using the sit out format, it wasn't until the final heat that the top few teams showed up with the numbers. But in 15 min heats, anything can happen. I think the winning team held their breath until the last min when their win appeared a sure thing. Team Dawg Brane, Brian Cannon and Luther Gilbreath, won by more than 26 laps. Interestingly, after 2 hrs of racing the lap totals were close for the top 6 teams.
Every team had some difficulties with motor, chassis, tires or gears. Every team worked through their difficulties and finished the race except for team Watkins. Laurie was called to her work for an emergency so they had to stop mid race and leave. Sorry about that guys.
We had 2 teams from Wichita Falls, Shelby from Houston, visitors form Austin (Mike and Julia Porfirio), Winnsboro and all places in between.
Strategy was everything in this race. 5 sitouts made even choosing lanes a tricky decision.
We had a room full of big personalities and I'm happy to say everyone enjoyed themselves with not even a slight problem with overly spirited vocals. Everyone helping everyone was really great to see. Plenty of marshals kept the track calls to a minimum.
Motors seemed to be the topic of the day. When to change or when not to change. Able to change it in 5 min or not able to change it in 5 min. For some motor changing comes easy after years of practicing. For others, not quite so fast. Hind sight is always 20/20 and many played the woulda/coulda/shoulda game.
I should say that Ben White's team mate was unable to make it so Ryan Carpenter and he teamed up at the last min to for team Serious Fun racing.
26 racers, I still cant believe it. It was very cool. My hopes were that every team would finish and for me it was really great to see that happen. Teamwork by everyone in the building kept everyone running. Thanks guys it was super.
A couple of teams tossed the high heat back and forth throughout the race. 208 from Luther seemed unbeatable....Until mac with Team Limeys ran 210 (at the end of the straight) laps on yellow. that shocked us all, well done Mac.
In the end, it was Team Dawg Brane taking home the gold. Congratulations to Luther Gilbreath and Brian Cannon for their victory. Team Limeys, Larry Welch and Eddy mac, sneaked up on the field to finish in 2nd place. Team XLR8, Shelby Thomas and George Mikez, finished 3rd place.
Team Slotermeyer, Steve Thornton and Felix Jimenez, placed 4th (again). They've informed me that they will not continue this 4th place finishing status. Its first place for them next time.
We had several new entrants to this Enduro. Some were not in the habit of racing flexi chassis. But they showed their true racing colors pretending they had wings and glue and full punch.
