If you missed the Enduro at Dallas Slot Cars, you missed a big one. The turnout was amazing with 11 teams entering. I had just hoped for a full track so to get 11 entries a few days before Christmas was super.
Everyone brought food so the table was full with soups, chili, cake, snacks and sweets. Thanks to all of you for bringing food. It made it an even better day.
11 teams entered. No qualifying. It was a drawing for lane/sit out choice. Concours was judged by the racers. It was a tie between Willie's body and Mac's body. Mac wanted Willie to take his first Concours Prize.
No doubt the racing was intense. I'm happy to say there no problems with such serious racing. Everyone had their game plan. Amazingly everyone said the 15 minute heats passed quickly.
Every team racing on the track racing had to have a racer marshalling. The sitouts were free to eat. Having extras helped tremendously when teams needed a little technical assistance. I am especially happy to report that no one ever burned up a Falcon 7. Two or three slowed a little but no blow ups. Those little devils are work horses.
There were a few surprises during the race. Heat 5, Gary Risk ready to start his heat...3, 2, 1...his car goes backwards. Motor upside down. Gary and Willie missed 170 laps that heat. Everyone steered clear of Gary for a heat or 2. Naturally he was furious with himself for the error. The only thing that put a smile on his face was Jay Howard committing exactly the same crime. Heat 6, Jay's car goes backwards. Jay and Brian missed 50 laps that heat. Other than feeling totally humiliated they both laughed. It took a little while longer to get a laugh from their team mates.
Heat 7, somehow Gary Dean and Eddy Mac reverse their lanes. After a few laps, Mac called track, realizing something was wrong.
Having sitouts meant it was hard to know who was in the lead. Serious Fun Racing was running smooth and consistent. George Mikez and Tom Hoover had no problems and drove like champions. They were the only team to run over 200 laps in 1 heat.
Team Semper Fi with Tex Hofer and Sarge, running their first enduro, had a few technical issues but otherwise a great time.
Team J & G Racing, John and Gwen Myers, drove all the way from New Braunfels to race the enduro. 2 slowish heats kept their finish mid pack.
Team Drill, Fill & Bill, Glen Blanchard & Bill Frost, needed a motor change before their 6th heat. Their biggest fear was a motor change. And it proved to be their nightmare. Missing about 50 laps finished them midpack rather than a possible 2nd place.
Team Last Nerve, Brian Cannon & Jay Howard, Missing 50 laps on a motor error cost them a perhaps 1st place.
Team Ranger, Gary Dean & Kyle Stokes, ran a very consistent race. With no technical problems, they finished a strong 3nd place.
Team Slotermeyer, Steve Thornton & Felix Jiminez, had a technical problem and missed 60 laps in their last heat. That cost them dearly finishing 4th rather than a possible 1st or 2nd place. A great finish for a team that hadn't even met each other until today.
Team Misfits, Randy Holden & Bill Perry, ran a great race. Not that familiar with a King track (red and black) kept their total laps down a little bit. Thanks for coming from Wichita falls to race with us.
Team Ghost Riders, Paul Watts & Eddy Mac, broke a guide at the post in their 5th heat. Missing about 70 laps kept their lap total down.
Team High Risk, Gary Risk & Willie Stanglin, had 1 problem that set them back 160 laps. It was hard to watch, but racing is racing. Needless to say, missing that many laps kept their lap total very low.
Watkins Racing, Laurie & David Watkins, had a great race. Especailly considering they are both new to Flexi racing. (Yes, I believe David considers himself a novice with the flexies) They were smooth and consistant finishing a very respectable 6th place.
Serious Fun Racing, Tom Hoover & George Mikez...It was their day to shine. Their fantastic driving put them in the winners circle by more than 50 laps. Congrats to them for a great win. It wasn't that long ago that Tom couldn't get a slot car around the track. Now, he and George have taken home the gold. Great race!
It was an incredible day of racing at Dallas Slot Cars. Many thanks for all the fun and food.An especially big thanks to all the drivers. This close to Christmas, thanks for making the effort to come play with us.
